| PRISON PREVENTION MINISTRIES
– Over the past 30 years Prison Prevention Ministries has evolved into a dynamic program reaching out to meet the needs as the years have progressed. There were a couple of earlier names before settling on one that carried the ministry for 18 years—Chattanooga Prison Ministries. At its inception CPM was entirely focused on in-prison ministry and provided a half way house for ex-offenders. The half way house was phased out early because that is a ministry that demands a lot of focus and resources, and the early founders felt the ministry calling was through ministry behind the prison walls.
Then in 1995 God opened the door for a new avenue of ministry—the Prevention Program focusing on at-risk youth. This program grew and opportunities for ministry expanded into North Georgia.
In 2000 it was time to change the name again so Chattanooga Prison Ministries became Prison and Prevention Ministries and our ministry area included greater Chattanooga and the North Georgia counties of Catoosa, Walker and Whitfield.
In 2008, we again refined our focus. At first glance one might not notice the change in the name of Prison and Prevention Ministries to Prison Prevention Ministries; but this seemly small change—dropping the “and”—does reflect a clarification of the focus of the ministry. We are a PREVENTION ministry—not a PRISON ministry.
